Vegan Buffalo Wings- battered tofu with chicken seasonings making them crispy on the outside with a chicken like consistency and taste on the inside. Smothered in (vegan) buttery Frank’s and dipped in Dilly Ranch- you will not be missing wings anymore!

Maybe you’re vegan, maybe you’re plant based or just trying to eat a little healthier. Whatever the case- these chickenless wings have got your back!

We decided on tofu as the base for these for 2 reasons:

  1. Consistency– Extra firm tofu already has a chicken like consistency and you don’t have to put in a lot of work (compared to making seitan.)
  2. Ease– All you need to do is chop up the tofu block into the shape you want. You can make these into strips like we did or do smaller cubes to get the ‘boneless wing’ style.

The batter is flavored with chicken seasonings that really compliment the tofu! As we get further into our vegan journey it becomes more and more clear that what you are missing when it comes to meat is not the meat itself but the SEASONINGS.

You got the right seasonings or a bomb ass sauce? You don’t need meat to be satisfied! Plus you’re skipping all the salt/fat/cholesterol from meat.

Winwinwin!

We dunked these in our Vegan Dilly Ranch Dip– SO GOOD. I think we ate two full blocks of tofu between the two of us and it was magical.

HOW DO YOU MAKE VEGAN BUFFALO WINGS?

Good question!

First, preheat your oven to 400 degrees.

Then cut your tofu into the desired size. We did 1/2 inch strips by 2 inches long and it worked well.

Mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl to combine. Then add the oil and water and mix again.

This should be a medium thick consistency, like pancake batter! Add some water if it’s too thick.

Gently add the tofu strips. Fold the batter over the strips until they’re well covered.

Carefully lay the strips one at a time on a parchment lined cookie sheet.

Place them in the oven for 30 minutes, making sure to carefully flip each one over half way through. (15 minutes, flip, then 15 more minutes.)

Meanwhile, place all the sauce ingredients in a saucepan and cook for 3 minutes over low heat.

Take the strips out of the oven. The edges should be brown and crispy.

Toss the strips in a large bowl with the sauce and serve with Vegan Dilly Ranch Dip!

You can cut smaller sizes for the tofu, think boneless wing style.

We did also toss some in BBQ sauce, excellent!
